$100 a Day Challenge: October 2024 Income Report – Entry #5

October 2024 Income Report

October was a good month for updating my websites, especially on the e-commerce side of things. Sales have been terrible, but I’m hoping that customer spending picks up in November….

5 of October’s orders came in during the last week of October. It was a bummer to have such a slow month, but I was glad it picked up. But the BIG news was that I finally received a Shopify order.

October Update Overview

I spent a consider amount of time adding internal links to Coffee Mugs & Hats. I realized I need to create links to my collections pages with hopes that Google will crawl a product page and then the link to the respective collection page. I didn’t track how many internal links I added because I would have spent way too much time tracking the edits – but it’s safe to assume I touched over 100 products. I updated 6 collections by improving their descriptions, added a collection image and links to products. One thing I’m doing is analyzing my Google Search Console and looking at queries that are driving getting impressions. I’m going to create collections for the major keywords. I also found a keyword that I want to rank for while reviewing competitors websites: Bible Mug. (I’ll add a link to the collection when I create it.)

I updated the following Collections in October 2024:

I was reviewing Coffee Mugs &Hats and realized my footer was lacking any links to the main pages like the privacy policy, shipping policy, etc. THIS WAS A MAJOR OVERSIGHT on my part as these are requirements for Google to trust your website. I also realized I had never configured my social media links on Coffee Mugs & Hats. Very sloppy on my part. But now my footer has a Quick links menu with the Policy links and links to index pages I’m manually updating. The goal of the index pages is to help Google/Bing find and index all of the products on the website and also add some internal link opportunities.

One positive is that I added 17 new products to Coffee Mugs & Hats and 11 New products to my Etsy store. I also updated a total of 12 products with updated images and/or internal links to other pages on the website. I published two blog posts.

Goals for November 2024

  1. Re-engage Social Media. I was researching a competitor and they are doing something unique with their social media posts. I’m going to do something similar on X, Instagram and Pinterest. It will be interesting to see if we can drive some traffic to Coffee Mugs & Hats.
  2. Try to generate 3-5 Blog Posts.
  3. Continue to Create New Products
    • Update Existing Etsy listing to try to get more visits. I’m running at a 1.7% conversion rate on Etsy, so If I can double traffic, I should be able to double my monthly sales.
  4. Create some videos for Coffee Mugs & Hats. I am starting to get a little traffic, but I need something to give my visitors confidence that someone exists on the other side of the screen. My idea is to create collection based videos and add a “Thank You for Visiting” video to the products in the collections. Hopefully this will increase my conversation rate on the Shopify store.

This is the third full income report on My Journey to $100 Per Day. My goal is to capture any increases or losses in income and traffic to my current websites. So September wasn’t a great month as far as updates go. My full time job took a ton of time and I spent some time traveling back and forth between Charlotte and NoVa. I had great plans to make some serious updates to the sites but got very little done. (October preview: much more new content)

Content Creation in October?

Below is a table I’m going to use to track content creation. The goal is to give you an idea of what I’ve been doing to tray to drive traffic to my websites to increase conversions. The table is pretty self explanatory but I’ll add a little context:

  1. YT Shorts – These are shorts that I created for any of the Youtube Channels
  2. YT Video – These are long form videos
  3. New Blog Posts – (Self explanatory)
  4. Blog Updates – Any time I edit or update a blog, I’ll include it in the total. This could be rewriting a paragraph, adding links or new images.
  5. New Products – I’ll keep a total of new products that have been added to any of my e-commerce sites
  6. Etsy Updates – Similar to blog updates, anytime I update an Etsy product, I’ll track it here.
  7. Shopfiy Updates – Similar to blog updates, anytime I update an Shopify product, I’ll track it here.

Social Media Review

October was the same as September…the only thing I really did Social Media wise was post/interact on TheFoundationisCracking X account.

*I want to track each post, but that’s just way too much work at this point. But I did track the major items. You can review the table below to see what I accomplished. I think this will be an interesting table moving forward.

Youtube

The only mover in shaker in August was my Find it and Buy it Youtube channel. It picked up 2 new subscribers. I guess it helps to post videos if you want to build a subscriber base…

  1. TheBikeRacer (138 Subscribers) (No Change)
  2. HoveringHelicopter (1 Subscriber) (No Change)
  3. Coffeemugsandhats (3 Subscribers) (No Change)
  4. Cloudseedingthesky (1 Subscriber) (No Change)
  5. TheFoundationisCracking (8 Subscribers) (No Change)
  6. Finditandbuyit (6 Subscribers) (+2 in September)

X (Formally Twitter)

I posted several links to the MAGA (Make America Great Again) Camouflage Trucker Hat on X and it must have gained some followers on the Coffee Mugs and Hats X account. We jumped 28 followers in October.

  1. Mike Byrd (169 Followers) (No Change)
  2. Hovering Helicopter (722 Followers) (+0 Followers)
  3. Coffee Mugs and Hats (49 Followers) (+28 Followers)
  4. Cloud Seeding the Sky (16 Followers) (+1 Follower)
  5. The Foundation is Cracking (328 Followers) (+12 Followers)
  6. Find It and Buy It (246 Followers) (+1 Followers)

Instagram

I did very little on Instagram in July. The results show it.

  1. The Bike Racer (517 Followers) (+0 Follower)
  2. Hovering Helicopter (7 Followers) (No Change)
  3. Coffee Mugs and Hats (152 Followers) (No Change)
  4. Cloud Seeding the Sky (1 Followers) (+0 Follower)

  1. The Bike Racer Videos (0 Followers) (No Change)
  2. Hovering Helicopter (0 Followers) (No Change)

  1. Coffee Mugs and Hats (8 Followers) (No Change)

Conclusion

October was a decent month. I earned over $1 per day which is much better than September. I really re-engaged Coffee Mugs & Hats. I think I’ll continue to do this because I need to be working on something that can actually turn a profit and make money. If I can drive traffic to the Shopify and Etsy store, I have a chance to sell a product. The other sites are hobby sites and I really want to build them into good websites, but the truth is I run out of hours in the day. It’s hard trying to maintain multiple sites.

My stretch goal is to be making $3 per day by the end of December.
